Omnipresence

This will be far too brief as it is too late to write a more thought out post.

Kay and I had a conversation tonight that has gotten me thinking.

If we claim God is omnipresent, how can our speculation on hell include the premise of it as a location that God is not?

so do you think omnipresence is of physical presence?

Here are three definitions:
The state of being everywhere at once.
Present everywhere at the same time.
Present everywhere simultaneously.
God is spirit, so I don't know what his physical presence would be outside of Jesus Christ. What are you thinking?

I think the doctrine of omnipresence only applies to this space-time universe. But beyond this continuum, I don't think the Bible says "God is everywhere." That's my initial inclination to your question anyway.

I don't think that the notion of omnipresence demands that God be everywhere but rather that God could be everywhere. I think if we took things literally regarding his physical everywhere-ness we would run into the notion that God is eveything.

Fascinating... I've never thought of it that way, Krista. I'm going to have to ponder that for a while. That puts a whole new spin on it for me.

Jesse, using "could" seems to rely more on God as omnipotent to fulfill omniscience.

Hmm... in light of Krista's thought, viewing God's omnipotence in similar fashion makes more sense to me... though I'm not sure I even buy it the context of this space-time universe either.

Like always, you both give me much on which to think.

Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
(Psalms 139:7-8)
